Nanhi Jaan officially launched it’s Youth Wing in February 2017 by putting a stall at the Colosseum fest at DAV College sector 10 Chandigarh. The Youth Wing aims at sensitising the community about the mission of the organisation and will be instrumental in planning and executing activities at it’s end.
In January 2017, starting a new innings with GMCH, Sector 32 at Chandigarh. Nanhi Jaan decided to extend full support to the children there, replicating the PGI model.
On February 3, 2016, Team Nanhi Jaan took the initiative to streamline the patients coming to the paediatric emergency at PGI. Based on the inputs given by Dr Jayshree Muralidharan and Dr Arun Bansal from the department, a system has been formalized wherein patients would be categorised into different levels depending on their presenting condition. They would be issued numbered slips to prevent commotion in the emergency. The slips have been provided by Nanhi Jaan. This would also help to estimate the percentage of patients in each category and the percentage needing admission.
The start of the New Year brings with it new hopes, aspirations and a wish for a better tomorrow. In this spirit, Veeranwali Foundation, under Project Nanhi Jaan, took up the critical issue of neonatal mortality in GMSC-16. The hospital was facing an acute shortage of baby incubators and phototherapy units, and our team installed 14 units in GMSH 16. This has helped in considerably reducing mortality in this age group. The mortality rate is down from 12/1000 kids to 1/1000 kids after the supply of baby incubators. A high-end ventilator, with an ABG machine worth ₹14 lakh, donated by Nanhi Jaan, a project of Veeranwali Foundation, was officially inaugurated on 7 January 2016 by Mr Anurag Aggarwal, Home Secretary, Chandigarh. On January 1, 2016, Team Nanhi Jaan celebrated New Year with children at village Masol – a village that despite being in the vicinity of Chandigarh lacks basic amenities. The land is arid and people work as labourers. Children are malnourished, under clothed and lack poor hygiene. Addiction is rampant and kids as young as 10 smoke. There is no dispensary and no motorable road leading to the village. We distributed warm clothes, shoes, socks, stationary and goodies to children and have decided to adopt this village to help improve the level of awareness among the residents towards educating their children, bettee hygeine, etc. The event was covered by NDTV – CLICK HERE to see the TV report. We celebrated the Children’s Day at PGIMER on November 14, 2012. The event was fun for both the children and volunteers from Nanhi Jaan. The Nanhi Jaan team spent almost five hours interacting with children and their families. Lots of goodies were distributed to the children. A special word of praise for team member Vandya who got all the packets made as also made all the arrangements. Unfortunately, due to some prior commitment, she could not attend the function. We would also like to thank Dr Bhavneet and Dr Vinay from PGIMER and the wonderful Teen team – Archit, Sahil, Mehul, Shrey and Sahiba.
On 21 March 2015, a neonatal-pediatric ventilator and an ABG machine was donated to the pediatrics department of the Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16 Chandigarh. Both machines, costing approx Rs 15 lakh, were not available in the department and helped to take the pediatric department of the hospital to the next level of tertiary care.
A public Announcement system was installed at Emergency of Advanced Paediatric centre PGI, helping in our own way to streamline processes and assist the over burdened staff.
On 12 November 2014, Small Wonder School and Volunteers of Nanhi Jaan playroom celebrated Children’s Day at Advanced Pediatric Centre in PGI. Mrs Hardeep Nama, Principal of Small Wonders School, along with the teachers, handed over puzzles, toys and games collected by the children of their school for the play area. A story telling session was also held by the Small Wonder school teachers. This was followed by poetry recitation by some of the children admitted in various wards of APC. Gifts were also given to the children.
